Bangkok city ballet company’s profile
Founded in 1996 under the expert direction of Masako Hirata, Bangkok City Ballet (BCB) is the one and only such professional group in Thailand. Its intention has always been to enrich the experience of local professional dancers, and now celebrates two decades of commitment to the excitement and enjoyment of dance. The increasingly respected company continues to create both Classical and Contemporary performances in at least two big productions per year.
In past years BCB has collaborated with world renowned ballet companies in order to produce top quality joint ventures right here in Bangkok: Don Quixote with Paris Opera Ballet (2007); Romeo & Juliet with Asami Maki Ballet (2008); Le Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève; The Nutcracker with l’Opéra de Paris (2012); and La Sylphide with English National Ballet (2013).
Through its uncompromising vitality, novelty, and diversity, BCB is striving to improve its status and go ‘toe-to-toe’ with the very finest of international dance companies. BCB has also established the Bangkok City Ballet School, registered under the Ministry of Education, in order to provide ballet and modern dance instruction for in excess of one hundred talented students.
